Small office design ideas
Alright, so you work from home, or perhaps have a little bit of space in your home where you can just kick back, relax, and surf the internet. It is not much space, but it is yours. On this page, we are going to take a little look at a few small office design ideas which will really make use of the limited amount of space that you have in your home office.
Keep things simple
Now, it is everybody’s dream to have an office packed to the brim with filing cabinets for their paperwork, perhaps a few magazine racks, some bookcases, large and comfortable chairs, and a massive desk on which to seat the computer. Sadly, this is impossible for most of us. In fact, even if you have a large office space to work in, it is unlikely that you are going to be able to fit everything that you want into it, sadly. It is, therefore, recommended that you try to keep things simple.
Only put the stuff that you really need into your home office. That desk and chair is going to be very much a given (although do try to keep these small). You may not need that huge bookcase, you may be able to get away with something a bit tinier. You may even find a desk which has a filing cabinet incorporated into it, which is going to save you a decent amount of space there. Basically, when you are tinkering around with small office design ideas, try to really think what is essential to your working office, and only stick to those essentials.
Seriously, there are so many people out there who underestimate just how fantastic shelving is for a home office when you do not have a lot of space to work with. Shelving can be placed right up there on the wall, it can fill up an otherwise ‘blank space’ and give you a bit more storage for your home office, which is going to be necessary. Take a look around your small home office now, if you are in it. See all that ‘spare’ space on your walls? No matter how small that area is, you are likely going to be able to fit one or two shelves on it, which is perfect for a few files, your printer, or just a couple of books.
Purchase an ‘all in one’ unit
Nowadays, you can purchase desks with everything that you need incorporated right into it. We briefly covered that previously with the ‘filing cabinet’, but you can also find desks with bookcases, shelves, and all manner of wonderful things built right into them. If you want to save space, that is the route that you are going to want to go down.
The ‘fold away’ desk
If you don’t have a lot of space to play about with in your home, or even a dedicated space for your office, then you may want to look into the ‘fold away’ desk. These are units which, as the name suggests, just fold away when they are not in use, and this will allow them to blend in with the rest of your furniture. This idea is mainly just for those people who mainly use laptops, but it does make a wonderful solution for those who are working from their living room.
